Jesse Stuart (1906-1984) was born in Greenup County, Kentucky and set most of his stories in Appalachia. His works include the poetry book Man with a Bull-Tongue Plow (1934), novels Trees of Heaven (1940), Taps for Private Tussie (1943), and the collection of short stories Tales from Plum Grove Hills.
